My
earliest memories of dogs is growing up in a house shared with my parents
Labradors and Kerry Blue Terriers.
I
"owned" my first dog a very long number of years ago! I did not follow my parents
dog breeds, but instead entered the
world of the HPR's - the hunt, point and retrievers, by owning weimaraners.
The weimaraners were predominantly worked, in the field and by
competing in working trials and obedience competitions. In addition
a small amount of showing was undertaken. I have continued with the
HPR's with the Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla and the Bracco Italiano.
Once again the dogs are multi-purpose, working and showing. In
particular the Bracco Italiano working as a search dog.
No matter what field the dogs are part of, first and foremost they are
family pets. We live in the beautiful Lake District where the dogs
accompany us on the fells. Over the years I have served on various training
and breed club committees. I was previously the Chairman of the
Bracco Italiano Society and am currently the secretary of the Hungarian
Wire-Haired Vizsla Club of Great Britain. I teach ring craft
for the show environment and judge at both Open and Championship show
level, being on a number of gundog judging lists at either "B" or "C" list
level. Simon is a superb, long suffering dog show
husband who is in charge of bag carrying and coffee buying when required!
In fact the most important part of the team and one I could not cope
without. Keeley Newman-Jones
